A scientist who believes that humanity caused its own doom by blindly pursuing technology creates a small mechanical humunculus, which magically comes to life. When the doll called 9 comes to life, he is unable to speak until he meets 2, who gives him a doll's voice box.
All the characters in the film have numbers instead of names, and they struggle against all odds to exist in a world where society has been destroyed and the earth left desolate.
